Our Story

MC_50.jpg

Paddywack Pooches had a rather inauspicious start. There was no grand plan or strategic meeting to start a rescue. No fund-raising or ribbon cutting. It all began with Chance, Literally and figuratively, While walking one day I came upon a lost and injured puggle. Ironically, I found him on the street where Mary T. Inc.'s CEO and founder Mary T lives. He was scruffy and dirty, had a bit of a limp, and one absolutely terrible cherry eye. No collar, no tags, no chip. I had been working with dogs most of my life, and at that point had worked in rescue about 10 years. I couldn't just leave the poor fellow there, so I snuck him back to our IT office where I worked. My supervisor and I weren't quite sure what to do, but we knew we had to help. But on the sly; we didn't know what Mary T would think of us bringing in a dog off the streets (HAH!).  So we cleaned the little guy up and looked at our bank accounts to see if we could afford to get him to a vet. All without telling Mary T. We had Chance in the office for a few hours, and he was decompressing, when who should walk through the door..MARY T! Freeze image. She looks at the dog. Looks at my supervisor. Looks at me. And, without batting an eyelash, takes in the condition of the dog and says "Hmm, what's this?" We stammered. We stuttered. We hedged. And Mary T, with a bemused look on her face simply says (as she always does): "Well, we have to do something. He obviously needs help. Take him to the vet, I'll pay."    And with that, Paddywack Pooches was born. Chance was given medical care, was adopted out to a Mary T. Inc. staffer, and so it began .

500 dogs later, Paddywack Pooches now works  to bring dogs in need together with the people Mary T. Inc. serves: people with differing abilities, brain injuries,  seniors, military service members, and the community at large. We provide our pooches with access to medical care, physical and emotional rehabilitation, and foster/adoption opportunities.

Bringing people and pooches together bridges the loneliness gap for both. Paddywack Pooches treasures the human/dog relationship, and we "rollover" backwards to provide all the support we can to help dogs and families create or maintain that beautiful bond.
